I think once you’ve heard this piece, you’ll swear you’ve heard the entire “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Why the rush? Well, I could go into a whole dissertation about how we need to compress everything to fit into our busy, short attention-span lives, but the main reason I did the arrangement was because the tunes are really wonderful and went together with unexpected results. Imagine the little Unhatched Chicks scurrying through the park where the children are at play, or the hut with the hen’s legs strutting through the Great Gate of Kiev and you’ll get the general idea of this 5 minute dash.

From The Flutist Quarterly, Winter 2011:
“A potential problem with flute choir arrangements of major works sometimes can be the length of the original, in terms of maintaining interest and timbral variety and finding ways for the whole work to suit the flute choir sound. Here, Judy Nishimura has solved the problem by creating a “five-minute tour” of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which includes major highlights from the full work in an amusing and entertaining way... The arrangement works well and serves as an excellent way of introducing the work to an audience in an entertaining way... this is one to look out for.
