This is the holiday companion to The Magic Flute (in 5 Minutes). Using themes from the entire ballet rather than just the Suite, I was hoping to give this work a fresher sound. You know you’ve heard some of the tunes, but maybe you didn’t realize it was from the Nutcracker.

“...In both versions the opening is the harp cadenza from the ‘Waltz of the Flowers.’ ‘The Mirletons’ is quoted extensively and sometimes surprisingly. Of course the ‘Chinese Dance’ is included, and so are some of the big orchestral pas de deux. The arrangements are both workmanlike and effective and either would be a good piece for a Christmas concert.”
