I had to write something for a concert whose theme was all about magic, so naturally Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” had to be represented. Instead of arranging just the overture or creating a medley of famous arias, I wanted this piece to stand on its own as an organic whole. Even if you don’t know your Queen of the Night aria from Papageno’s “Der Vogelfånger bin ich ja” I think you’ll enjoy this sampler of Mozart’s great work.

“Not exactly all of the Magic Flute, but a skillful combination of some of the most famous bits. The Queen of the Night is set with themes from the Overture, and Papageno together with Isis and Osiris all make an appearance. The writing is very contrapuntal so you will need a good group who can play up to the speed necessary to bring it all to an end in 5 minutes. Not for purists!”
